Canadian Rockies from Calgary to Vancouver

Genuine untouched wilderness awaits with pristine Icefields and surreal turquoise glacial lakes.Visit the must-see stops along the way as you enjoy a breathtaking excursion through the Canadian Rockies. From Calgary, head west toward the resort town of Banff. Then explore the beauty of Lake Louise. Experience Jasper National Park and the Columbia Icefield including, a trek across a glacier. Afterwards,journey onboard the Rocky Mountaineer rail through wilderness into Kamloops and onto Vancouver.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Calgary to Banff

Upon arrival in Calgary you will be transferred to Banff. The rest of the day is at leisure for you to explore the town on your own.

Day 2 – Banff

Breakfast

Enjoy an excursion highlighting the town of Banff and its environs this morning. Learn about culture, geology and wildlife while exploring the spectacular sights of the renowned mountain town of Banff. Take a ride on the Gondola car to the peak of Sulphur Mountain for a 360 degree view of the Banff town site and the Bow Valley. Other highlights include:Bow Falls, Tunnel Mountain drive, Surprise Corner, Hoodoos, Two Jack Viewpoint and Lake Minnewanka. After this excursion you will be dropped off at your hotel and get ready for your afternoon transfer to Lake Louise.

Day 3 – Lake Louise to Jasper

Today, you will travel north along the famous lcefields Parkway, one of the most spectacular highways in North America. You will have stops at the Columbia Icefield & Glacier Skywalk as you travel through Banff and Jasper National Parks. At the Columbia lcefield, enjoy lunch (included) at the Columbia lcefield Discovery Centre. Then, board an Ice Explorer and travel onto the icy slopes of the Athabasca Glacier. Only a few minutes from the Athabasca Glacier is the Glacier Skywalk. Winner of the 2011 World Architecture Future Projects award, the Glacier Skywalk consists of a 400 meter interpretive boardwalk and a glass-floored observation platform extending 30 meters out over the Sunwapta Valley. Have your camera ready to capture the majesty of the Athabasca Falls, prior to your arrival into Jasper.

Day 4 – Jasper

This morning, explore the spectacular natural treasures of the largest national park In the Canadian Rockies, Jasper National Park . Stand above the massive walls of Maligne Canyon for stunning views of rushing waterfalls, discover the mystery of the disappearing water at Medicine lake and stroll the shores of Maligne Lake.

Day 5 – Jasper to Kamloops

Breakfast and Lunch

Early morning check out and transfer to rail station. Travel on board the Rocky Mountaineer Rail from Jasper in the Canadian Rockies to Kamloops, in the heart of the British Columbia Interior. As you journey west and South you will be surrounded by the dramatic scenery of the Continental Divide and by the river valley of the Monashee and Cariboo Mountains. Today's highlights include Mount Robson, Pyramid falls, the climb over Yellowhead Pass and the journey along the North Thompson river as you approach Kamloops.

Day 6 – Kamloops to Vancouver

Your Journey continues west towards the Pacific Ocean and the coastal city of Vancouver. On todays' journey you will again see dramatic changes in scenery, from the desert-like environment of the Interior, through winding river canyons and pristine forests to the Coast and Cascade mountains and the lush green fields of the Fraser valley. Highlights include the steep slopes and rocks sheds along the Thompson River and the rushing waters of Hell's gate in the Fraser Canyon. Your rail journey ends on arrival in Vancouver this evening.

Day 7 – Vancouver

Breakfast

Today you will immerse yourself in the natural wonders surrounding Vancouver, with a visit to Capilano Suspension bridge and Grouse Mountain. Traverse through the green urban oasis of Stanley Park and across the historic Lions Gate Bridge to Vancouver's North Shore. Highlights include Lions Gate bridge, Grouse Mountain admission, Skyride to the peak of the Grouse Mountain, Capilano River Hatchery and Capilano Suspensio Bridge admission. Return to Vancouver in the afternoon. This evening, visit Vancouver's newest attraction, FlyOver Canada (included).

Day 8 – Vancouver Departure

Breakfast

A morning check out from your hotel to join the Vancouver city tour. You may leave your luggage at the hotel storage. Explore the city's most popular sites on a fully narrated city excursion. Stop and check out the totem pole display and the Prospect Point in Stanley park, the art community on Granville Island, and ascend the Vancouver lookout tower to the viewing deck for a bird's eye view of the city. Additional highlights include the historic Gastown, Chinatown, Vancouver Harbour and the sandy beaches of English Bay.Upon returning to the hotel to claim your luggage, you will be transferred to the Vancouver Airport for your onward flight.
